3, 2, 1... GUEST STARRING! MAURO CASCIOLI

Alex Ross dijo una vez, que Marvel buscaba a alguien que dibujase como él, pero más rápido. Esa frase me vino a la cabeza hace poco, cuando me topé con el arte de Mauro Cascioli. Poco o nada se de este autor, salvo alguna portada, o sus últimos trabajos en "The Trials of Shazam" y en la actual miniserie, "Cry for Justice". Si bien su estilo es diferente al de Alex Ross, refleja un gran realismo y una gran fuerza en sus expresiones, anatomía y formas, al que acompaña unas correctas tintas y colores. Es un estilo bastante interesante, y aunque no pueda hablar mucho de el, creo que mantendré un ojo en este autor, y creo, que podemos esperar, grandes cosas de él.

Alex Ross told once, that Marvel was looking for an artist who draws like him, but faster. This story comes to my mind when I discovered this artist, the art of Mauro Cascioli. I have to admit that I just know two works from this artist pencils: "The Trials of Shazam" and his actual mini, "Cry for Justice". His style, different from Alex Ross´s, show too a strong reality, a great strong charaters, faces, expressions, with of course great inks and colours. It is a very interesting style, worth to be watching, and I really think, that we can wait great works to come too!.

Hoy toca paisano! conocido por sus actuales portadas para Runaways, el español Marcos Martín, ya nos sorprendió hace mucho tiempo con sus ilustraciones para una de las mejores series que se puede leer, Batgirl Year One, hoy os dejo una portada de este autor, que aunque de corta carrera en el mundo del cómic, deja su huella bien patente. Esta portada me recuerda un poco a los antiguos dibujos animados, los del Disney antiguo, no se que exactamente, pero esta portada me cautiva fuertemente, la heroína en estado puro, saltando del peligro en el ultimo momento, muy dinámica, simple, bella, una portada fantástica.

It´s folk time! knowed by his actual covers for Runaways, the spanish Marcos Martin surprised us way ago with covers for the so good Batgirl Year One series, today I want to show you one of the covers for this series. A comic book drawer that go easy but hit hard!. This cover, reminds me the old cartoons, the ones for old Disney movies, I dont really know how to explain it, but this cover is charmed, the hero in his pure form, jumping from the danger at the pretty last moment, dinamic, beautifull, an awesome cover!

IT HAPPENED ONE DAY: OUT THERE.

Bienvenidos a el Dorado City, una ciudad maravillosa para vivir, cero delincuencia, buenos colegios, vecinos amables, solo hay un pequeño detalle sin importancia, que le hemos vendido nuestra fidelidad a un ser demoníaco de otra dimensión, ¿Quién no querría vivir allí?

Creado a medias por Humberto Ramos y sus fabulosos lápices, y guionizado por Brian Augustin, Out there, representaba un clásico con toques que recuerdan a la “invasión de los ultra cuerpos”, “buffy cazavampiros” o “The Faculty”, mezclado todo con ingrediente propios de serie de TV adolescentes.

La historia nos presenta a los cuatro personajes principales en la ciudad americana de El Dorado City, quienes tendrán que unirse, porque muy a su pesar son los únicos que son conscientes del mal que llama a su puerta. De este modo conocíamos a Zach Mullins, el quaterback del equipo y tan popular como su chica, Casey Philips, Jessie Santiago, la chica hispana no muy sociable y Marx Wexler, el pobre novato empollón. Todo va “bien” hasta que descubren que sus queridísimos progenitores han hecho un pacto para que su pueblo sea una feliz utopía mas empalagosa que 90210 y “ONE tree hill” juntos, pero a cambio, concederán obediencia y poder a un ser transdimensional llamado Draedalus, para que entre en nuestra dimensión con toda su horda de duendes… bastante asequible ¿no? Una serie que además nos brindaba con grandes personajes como becky la reverenda con un canal muy directo con dios, EL gigante Abel, que quedo mudo al ver, supuestamente un ángel en el desierto, mientras combatía con las tropas americanas, y algún que otro demonio con piel de “cordero”.

Personalmente me encantan este tipo de historias, el sentimiento de elegidos para el desastre me emociona bastante, y como he dicho ese toque de “La invasión de los ultracuerpos”, cuando todo el pueblo esta bajo la influencia de Draedalus. Lo malo de esta historia, es que lejos de haber llegado a un fin corto, pero coherente, se fue alargando y alargando, hasta que perdió cohesión, y es que las cosas, si funcionan hay que cortarlas rápido, que luego pasa lo que pasa. Pero que aun así no solo te hace disfrutar de los lápices de Ramos, sino que además te brinda una de las historias mas amenas que se pueden leer últimamente, si os gusta este tipo de genero, hacéis con Out There, muy recomendable, para finalizar un What if…?... ¿Y Si Humberto ramos y pixar se uniesen para hacer una película?

Co-created by Humberto Ramos and his amazing pencils, and script by Brian Augustin, Out there, played a classic with bits of "the invasion of the body snatchers", "Buffy vampire slayer" and "The Faculty", mixed all with typical teenagers tv shows. The story presented us, the four protagonist, who even if they wanted or not, woudl have to join and face the evil knoking on the door, because they are the only ones who noticed the menace. These way we meet, Zach Mullins, the quaterback and his all popular girlfriend, Casey Philips, Jessie Santiago, the weird spanish girl, and Marx Wexler, the "geek".
Everything would be all right, if it wasnt by his loved parents, which given back for peace and a utopic city, they have swear loyaltyto Draedalus and his army of goblins, given he the way to step into our dimension... nice deal, huh? A volume which even gave us the oportunity to enjoy not just Ramos Pencil, they gave us one of the most cool stories and funy ones, I have read nlast years. and of course we have to mention other stories inside Out there, like the Priest Becky with direct line with god, The giant Abel, who couldnt speak since he saw an angel while he was fighting with the american armies, and other skinwalker demons.

Particularly, I love this kind of stories, the sentiment of been chosen for disaster, like i have say, the "body snatchers situation", when all his folks are in a trance and under the power of draedalus. The problem with this kind of stories, is, that they take the end soo long, they would have to make a quicker and logic end, because the good thing should be short in time. but, anyway out there is still a cool story, so dont doub it guys, go for it and enjoy Out There. And one question more, what if... what if Humberto Ramos and Pixar work toguether making a movie....?

Soy un enamorado del mundo del cómic, como ya he dicho antes, a veces, no importa la colección, o el personaje, sino algo que la portada te transmite, a veces incluso una viñeta, solo una viñeta, hace importante un cómic, porque esa viñeta te da la idea para otros muchos dibujos (Los Flashes). A veces, te transmite sentimientos, y te preguntas, por qué hay gente que cree que solo son dibujos, cuando en otra época hubiesen sido obras de arte. En este caso, tenemos esta portada de Wonder Woman, de J.G. Jones, este autor del que solo conozco sus portadas para Final Crisis, Wanted y WonderWoman, me atrajo fuertemente con esta portada, es una de mis favoritas. No se de que iba ese numero, ¿quizás una despedida?, ¿un sentimiento de soledad?, ¿un abandono de la lucha?, ¿había fallado en su labor?, es una portada fantástica y me gustaría dejar la idea en el aire, ¿si no lo hubieseis leído, qué creéis que habría dicho este número?

I am in love with comic books world, like I said before, sometimes, it does not matter the comic book itself, or the character, it is something that the cover tells you. Sometimes even just a panel, just a panel, which turns important a comic book, because this panel, make you have the idea for other draws (the Flashes). Sometimes it makes you feel emotions, and makes you wonder, why do people still consider them like cartoons, when in othe time, this covers would have been real art in a museum. This time, we have a Wonder Woman cover, art by J.G. Jones, who i just know from Wanted, Final Crisis and Wonder Woman covers, but attracted me strongly, one of my fauvorite covers. I dont even know what was the issue about, Maybe a farewell? A sentiment of solitude?, Did she fail? Did she left the battle? it is a real great cover, and i would like to let the quesion in the air, If you have never ever read that issue, what do you think the story was about?
